DIAL M FOR MURDER (1954)
Character(s) requested: Margot Mary Wendice

My favorite movie of all time, and one that I desperately wish had more fanfiction. The basic plot is a retired tennis player, Tony Wendice, has discovered his much younger and richer wife Margot cheated on him with American crime writer Mark Halliday. He arranges an old college acquaintance of his to try and kill her in the perfect crime, but all doesn’t go to plan….

Margot, as a character, fascinates me so much. She seems to bend to Tony’s will when he demands it yet was bold enough to have an affair behind his back. And what she goes through in the film is HORRIFYING: nearly being murdered, then framed for protecting herself and sentenced to death. Even when she’s freed, she has to cope with knowing Tony was behind all her pain, and when we last see her she’s utterly shattered. I’d love any sort of look into her character: childhood, original romance with Tony, how her and Mark’s affair started, or what they get up to post-movie and how Margot copes. Does she see Tony again after he’s convicted? Does she meet Mark’s family and friends back home in America? As for AU ideas, what if Mark had actually convinced her to go with him instead of breaking the affair off during their spaghetti dinner? What if she had gotten pregnant from the affair? Or what if Tony hadn’t been able to call in time after all, and Swann never attacked her—how does this impact her relationship with him, and with Mark? Go crazy! The only type of AU I very specifically do NOT want to see is one where she’s hanged after all/Tony gets away with it all.

GUYS AND DOLLS (1955)
Character()s requested: Sky Masterson, Sarah Brown

The movie that got me into old films almost 12 years ago, and the longest lasting OTP I’ve ever had. Plot is about a legendary gambler, Sky Masterson, betting $1000 with fellow gambler Nathan Detroit that he can convince uptight Christian missionary Sarah Brown to go on a date to Havana, Cuba with him. Sarah at first refuses, but later relents when Sky promises to bring her one dozen genuine sinners for her mission’s prayer meeting the day after. Unfortunately for both Sky and Sarah, genuine feelings develop between them in Havana and it complicates things! This musical is a delight and a perfect comfort film.

I love Sky and Sarah both, and their wild relationship. Would enjoy seeing either of their pre-movie backstory explored*, missing scenes between them (the plane ride to and from Havana? How do they make up before the end?) and would LOVE anything about their lives post-movie. Their relationship is going to take a lot of communication and trust, two things that aren’t always easy—especially with people as stubborn as both of them! As for AU ideas, I’ve been DYING for someone to write a Sky and Sarah miss the plane home from Havana and have to share one bed in a seedy motel (your choice on how steamy it gets). OR what if they didn’t originally make up after the end of the movie, and Sky left town, but they reunite years (however long) down the line? Bonus if Sarah is engaged or even married to someone else. Also, I LOVE the extended cast, and would be delighted if you featured any of them too!

*For backstory ideas, I highly recommend listening to or reading The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown by Damon Runyon which is what the musical is originally based on. THE BIG COUNTRY (1958)
Character()s requested: Jim McKay, Julie Maragon

A movie that got me through the pandemic back in 2020. It’s an incredibly underrated Western that more people should see! The plot is retired, wealthy sea captain Jim McKay moves out to a small Texas town to be with his fiancee Pat Terrill, but discovers there’s a major feud over water rights between Pat’s and another family involving the land owned by Pat’s best friend and the town school teacher, Julie Maragon. Jim and Julie end up bonding when he goes on a mini adventure to check out the land himself, but when Pat’s father has his men attack the other family’s cattle, things escalate out of control.

I LOVE Jim and Julie individually and as a couple. They’re two mature, peace oriented peas in a pod surrounded by chaos. Would love any look into their childhood and families since we know so little about it, their thoughts during any of their individual scenes or ones together, and what happens post movie! Do they stay in Texas, does Jim take Julie back to the East with him? How do other characters (especially Pat) react to them getting together? Once again, please go crazy!
